Join the owner’s current drive Wi-Fi; its initial key is on the label or Quick Install Guide. Dashboard protection uses the owner’s current password and the manual’s Admin username. The Wi-Fi key is separate; no universal dashboard password is established.
Use the existing browser dashboard
Stop if first-time setup appears. WD has ended software updates and technical support; mobile-app support ended December 31, 2024 and the app is no longer downloadable. This task uses the browser.
Read Home capacity and battery
Inspect Capacity for free storage and Battery for charge percentage. Leave settings and storage operations untouched. Opening the dashboard automatically synchronizes the drive’s clock with the browser.
If access fails
Confirm the current Wi-Fi name/address and lit Wi-Fi indicator with the owner. USB attachment to a computer disables wireless access; do not interrupt a transfer or reset the drive.
