Find the right address, step by step

First connect to your router’s main Wi-Fi or Ethernet network. Choose your device for instructions, then check the address you find.

Before you start

Connect to the router’s Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Look for Router or Default Gateway, which is different from your device’s own IP address. RouterEntry cannot detect this value automatically.

Windows

  1. Open the Start menu, type Command Prompt, and open it.
  2. Type the command below and press Enter.
    ipconfig
  3. Find your connected Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter. Read the IPv4 address next to Default Gateway.
  4. Enter that address in your browser. Skip disconnected adapters and VPN entries.

Mac

  1. Open System Settings → Network.
  2. Select your active connection and open Details → TCP/IP.
  3. Copy the address shown next to Router into your browser.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Settings → Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the information button next to your connected network.
  3. Scroll to Router. Use that address to open the router’s page.

Android

  1. Open Settings and find your Wi-Fi connections, sometimes under Network & internet or Connections.
  2. Tap your connected network’s details or gear icon.
  3. Look for Gateway or Router, sometimes in an advanced details section. Menu names vary by manufacturer.

If your phone does not show a gateway, check the router label or use a connected computer. You do not need to switch to a static IP to look up the address.

What if the gateway isn’t 192.168.1.1?

Use the address your device reports. 192.168.0.1 and 10.0.0.1 are other possibilities. A private address is local to your network; a public “what is my IP” website does not tell you the router’s local login address.

I found the address, but it still won’t open

Check that you are on the main network, not a guest network. If there are multiple routers, the default gateway may be an upstream device. Use the manufacturer’s app or manual to locate the equipment you actually want to configure.
