Identify Gen 3 before using a default password

Telstra lists CobraXh as the Smart Modem Gen 3 model. Check underneath or behind the modem, or view the equipment details for your internet service in My Telstra. Gen 2 and Gen 4 have different model identifiers.

Open mymodem or the local address

  1. Join the modem’s home network.
  2. Open http://mymodem or http://192.168.0.1 in the browser address bar.
  3. The original username is admin. For Gen 3, Telstra says to use the Wi-Fi password printed underneath the modem as the original login password. Use the current admin password if it was changed.

Why older Telstra instructions may fail

Telstra documents a different original password for Gen 2 and 1.1. Do not apply that default to a Gen 3 just because the brand is the same. Check the exact modem generation first.

Change your Wi-Fi name or password

For Gen 3, open Wi-Fi, edit the network name or security-key field and select Apply. The newer Gen 4 guide uses a different menu label. Reconnect devices whose Wi-Fi settings changed.

If the login page is unreachable

Check the gateway of your active connection, especially if another router or mesh system sits between your device and the modem. A browser on mobile data will not be on the modem’s local network.

When every device loses internet

Check Telstra’s service status first. Its modem restart guide describes removing modem power for 10 seconds, reconnecting it and waiting a few minutes. This temporarily interrupts service; it is not a factory reset. Separate nbn or Opticomm equipment has its own restart instructions, so use the official guide for that device.

Use the no-internet checklist to compare device and shared-service symptoms before changing settings.

Check access for this model

For Gen 3 (CobraXh), connect to the modem’s network and open http://mymodem or 192.168.0.1. Read the active gateway if another router sits between you and the modem.

When a password is rejected

Check your saved Gen 3 administrator password. The older Gen 2 default is not the Gen 3 default; confirm CobraXh and consult Telstra before resetting equipment.

Use the official My Telstra account-recovery route. Your Telstra account is separate from the modem’s local admin sign-in.

When several devices lose internet

Check Telstra service status and its restart guidance. Any separate nbn or Opticomm connection device has its own instructions; do not treat it as the modem.
