RouterEntry · Sources checked · How we write our guides
Open Xfinity Gateway ↗Connect to your own router’s Wi-Fi or Ethernet first. Opens in a new tab.
Start with the gateway you actually use
These instructions concern Xfinity gateway equipment. If you supply your own separate router, its local login and credentials may come from that manufacturer instead. Check the label and how the router connects to your modem.
Local Admin Tool or Xfinity app?
The local Admin Tool commonly uses 10.0.0.1. Xfinity publishes instructions for allowing Admin Tool access through its app on applicable equipment. If local access is unavailable, check that setting using the provider’s current guide instead of assuming the gateway is broken.
Understand the requested password
The local administrator password, your Wi-Fi password, and your Xfinity account credentials serve different purposes. Use the credential requested by the verified interface. A changed admin password is not restored by entering a generic default.
Wi-Fi settings are not always editable locally
The available controls depend on the gateway and its management configuration. If the app manages a setting, use the supported app route. Avoid resetting equipment simply to expose a control the provider has moved.
If 10.0.0.1 does not open
- Join your own main network, not a public hotspot or guest connection.
- Confirm the actual gateway address.
- Check the provider’s Admin Tool access instructions.
- Try another connected device before making configuration changes.
Contact Xfinity before a factory reset if you are unsure how to restore service.
