Open R7000 settings

Connect to your R7000 over its Wi-Fi or a LAN Ethernet port, then enter routerlogin.net in the browser address bar. The manual also lists routerlogin.com and 192.168.1.1. If the LAN address has changed, use the current router address from your network settings. If settings do not open, check router power and your local connection, reopen the browser and check that the client receives an address automatically. The Nighthawk app is another documented management route; the steps here follow the browser interface.

This local hostname works only while connected to your own router network.

Choose the right password

The browser username is admin; enter the case-sensitive administrator password chosen at first setup. The Wi-Fi key on the label joins the preset wireless network and is a different credential. An ISP login serves the internet connection. A changed administrator password is not restored by trying the printed Wi-Fi key. The manual lists a factory administrator value only for factory-default settings; it is not the current password of every R7000.

Change Wi-Fi details

Sign in locally and select Wireless. Find the intended 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz section, edit Name (SSID) or Password (Network Key), keep security enabled and select Apply. Save the replacement details first. Use Ethernet when practical: applying changes can disconnect the device used to edit Wi-Fi. Rejoin affected devices with the updated name and key, and check the other band rather than assuming both changed.

Recover administrator access before resetting

Recovery must have been enabled before the password was forgotten, and you need the saved security answers. Connect to this R7000 and open routerlogin.net. Follow the recovery interface actually shown. Current NETGEAR support, updated May 2026 and listing R7000, describes a password-reset screen after three failed sign-ins: enter this router’s label serial number, answer the two saved questions, then set a new administrator password and questions. The January 2019 R7000 manual describes an older flow: cancel the login prompt, enter the serial number, continue through the saved answers, then use the displayed recovered password with Login again. Do not assume the older display-password flow and the newer replacement-password flow are identical. The older manual lists Chrome and Firefox and excludes Safari for recovery; this does not establish current browser or phone compatibility. If neither documented route matches or the answers are unavailable, consult exact-model NETGEAR support before erasing settings. A factory reset deletes your custom configuration and requires setup and reconnection; preserve ISP and network details first and do not interrupt its restart. Official sources conflict on Reset-button duration, so no hold time is given here.

The serial-number and security-question flow recovers local R7000 administrator access. It does not recover an ISP login or the Wi-Fi key. Enter these details only in your router’s local recovery flow, never into this website.

The router opens but the internet does not

If settings open but websites do not, select ADVANCED and inspect the Internet-port address. A value of 0.0.0.0 means the R7000 has not obtained a WAN address. Check the modem-to-router cable, then follow the manual’s restart sequence if needed: modem off and unplugged, router off, modem on and wait two minutes, then router on and wait two minutes. If the address is still missing, ask the provider about required login, host-name or registered-device details. With a WAN address present, check DNS and the client’s default gateway instead of repeatedly changing passwords.
