RouterEntry · Sources checked · How we write our guides
Read the model from the router label and continue only if it says RS300. Nighthawk, WiFi 7, BE9300, or a similar case is not enough to establish this identity. The official manual also covers the separately named RS280 and BE9300 models; this guide excludes them, RS500, RS600, RS700 variants, ISP-customized equipment, and any unlisted hardware revision.
Open NETGEAR Nighthawk RS300 settings
Connect by RS300 Wi-Fi or a LAN Ethernet port, then enter routerlogin.net in the browser address bar. The exact manual also lists routerlogin.com and 192.168.1.1. These are local-router destinations, so the device must be connected to this RS300. If the page does not open, check the selected Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable and router power, close and reopen or clear the browser, and make sure the client obtains an address automatically before considering a reset. The Nighthawk app is a separate setup and management route; the browser route is the exact manual path for the settings below.
Open routerlogin.net ↗This local hostname works only while connected to your own router network.
Which password does the page need?
Local browser administration uses username admin and the case-sensitive router password chosen during setup. The Wi-Fi network key joins the wireless network, a NETGEAR account supports registration, remote management, and subscriptions, and an ISP login serves the internet connection. Those credentials are not interchangeable. Treat the manual's factory password only as a post-reset value, not as a universal current password.
Change the Wi-Fi password
After local browser sign-in, select Wireless. Check whether Smart Connect is combining the bands, then edit the Name (SSID) or Password (Network Key) for the intended 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or 6 GHz network, keep security enabled, and select Apply. Record the new details first and use Ethernet when practical because a wireless editing device can disconnect. Rejoin affected devices with the saved name and key. App screens can differ, so use the documented browser route when matching these fields.
Separate local access from internet service
If routerlogin.net does not open, verify the device-to-RS300 connection and current local administrator credential. If the local page opens but websites do not, leave the admin and Wi-Fi passwords unchanged while you inspect the Internet-port status and provider connection.
Recover local administrator access
Try non-destructive administrator recovery first. It works only if Enable Password Reset was selected earlier and the two saved security answers are available. From a browser connected to this RS300, open routerlogin.net, cancel the login window, enter the serial number from this router's label, answer the saved questions, and create the replacement administrator password and security answers. If recovery is unavailable, preserve ISP, Wi-Fi, addressing, and other custom details and consult the exact manual or NETGEAR Support before a factory reset. A reset erases personalized settings, restores factory local access and addressing, and requires setup and device reconnection. Keep power connected and do not interrupt the restart. The exact manual conflicts on Reset-button hold time, so this guide deliberately provides no timing.
The NETGEAR account used by the Nighthawk app is separate from the RS300 local administrator login. Serial-number and security-question recovery changes only the previously protected local administrator access; it does not recover the NETGEAR account or Wi-Fi key.

Choose the next diagnostic
If local settings open but the internet does not, select Advanced and inspect the Internet-port address. A value of 0.0.0.0 means the RS300 did not obtain a WAN address. Open Connection Status and renew the connection, then check for a provider outage and confirm any ISP login, host-name, or MAC-address requirement. If the router has a WAN address, continue with DNS and default-gateway checks instead of changing router credentials.
