Open TP-Link TL-WR841N V14 ↗

Connect to your own router’s Wi-Fi or Ethernet first. Opens in a new tab.

Hardware V14

The hardware revision is printed on the device label. Other TL-WR841N revisions may have different setup screens. Match the manual and any firmware download to the label.

Reach the router

Join its network and open tplinkwifi.net. The V14 router-mode manual gives 192.168.0.1 as the initial LAN address. Use the current address after a change; in access-point mode, your gateway can identify the upstream router.

Which password?

The linked V14 manual documents admin for both initial username and password. A changed management credential replaces those defaults. The wireless key is separate. Match your hardware revision and setup screen before using an initial value.

Check the operating mode

The V14 manual has distinct chapters for operating modes, including WISP mode. Select the chapter matching the current configuration. Instructions that change the internet connection in one mode may not apply in another.

Change Wi-Fi in wireless-router mode

Use Wireless → Basic Settings for the network name. For its password, use Wireless → Wireless Security, edit Wireless Password under the active personal-security setting, and save. These are different screens. Reconnect devices after changing either value.

In WISP mode, also identify the upstream wireless connection. Use the matching manual chapter before editing that connection.

Keep changes recoverable

Record the existing values before changing a setting and make one change at a time. A Wi-Fi change may disconnect the device you are using. Have the new details ready to reconnect, or use Ethernet while managing the router.

When the guide does not match

Recheck the model suffix and hardware revision. A differently styled screen is a reason to consult the matching manual, not to reset the router. Follow the TP-Link family guide if the label identifies another product.

A changed administrator password is rejected

Check saved credentials first. The documented local management login is separate from a TP-Link online account. If recovery requires a factory reset, preserve the information needed to restore service and follow the V14 hardware instructions. Its combined WPS/RESET button behaves differently for short and long presses.

Check the operating mode before interpreting a light

The V14 manual assigns different meanings to the internet light in router, access-point, extender and WISP modes. Compare the actual mode and another device before using the no-internet checks.
